Banner for SLUgS

The Society of Linguistics Undergraduate Students AKA SLUgS is a student-run organization that hosts weekly academic and social activities for lovers of linguistics. Past events include a biannual IPA spelling bee, monolingual elicitations, tours of the PhonLab, and a talk from David J. Peterson, creator of Dothraki from Game of Thrones.  We also host an annual symposium, in which undergraduate linguists from around the world gather in Berkeley to present their research on a wide array of linguistic topics. SLUgS is a place for students to create connections and foster discussion about the major of Linguistics as well as the field as a whole. Membership is open to all students from any major, background, and experience level!

Staying connected

SLUgS meets every Thursday at 5PM in 1229 Dwinelle!
